Stand Up Against Political Intimidation — Rally This Tuesday in Tacoma
Across Washington, citizens exercising one of their most sacred rights — the right to petition their government through the initiative process — are being met with violence, harassment, and intimidation.
Signature gatherers for Let’s Go Washington’s new initiatives — one protecting fairness in girls’ sports and another restoring parental rights — have faced organized campaigns of disruption meant to silence them and discourage voters from signing.
Here’s what’s been happening:
😡 Physical harassment and threats — Signature collectors have been surrounded, screamed at, and even struck by vehicles in shocking incidents across the state. Let’s Go Washington has a running tally (19 incidents long, as of this moment) on its X account.
🕵️♀️ Organized intimidation — An online form from Washington Families for Freedom, funded by the Washington Education Association, is being used to “report” signature locations so activists can swarm and disrupt them.
Secretary of State Steve Hobbs has rightly condemned this behavior, reaffirming that every Washingtonian has the right to safely engage in the initiative process. But Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown have been far more muted — offering only limited statements while this campaign of intimidation continues.
This kind of behavior has no place in a free democracy. Citizens should never fear retaliation or violence for participating in the political process.
Now is the time to make a stand.
