Snohomish natural gas ban resolution fails

In a pushback response to State House Bill 1589, which recently passed the legislature and was signed into law by the Governor, a proposed Snohomish County Council Resolution 24–013 was introduced to oppose the natural gas ban and advocate support for affordable energy choices for all residents and businesses in Snohomish County.

Unfortunately and despite a tremendous response from our community, the proposed Resolution failed by a vote of 2 in favor (Councilmembers Low & Nehring), 2 opposed (Councilmembers Dunn & Peterson) and 1 abstention (Councilmember Mead).  Here is the proposed Resolution that failed the vote. And here is video of the city council meeting.

Thank you to everyone who read our Future 42 Snohomish Action Alert email and contacted your councilmember with short notice before the meeting.

Despite this outcome, there will still be critical opportunities for you to fight back against the natural gas ban. In addition we now know which councilmembers support affordable energy choices.

We’ll keep you updated on further developments.
