Sign in CON Before Tomorrow’s Income Tax Hearing
It’s working.
The response from Washingtonians like you in opposition to an income tax has been unprecedented, and lawmakers are taking notice.
A House Democrat leader warned the income tax (that proponents are calling a ‘millionaires tax’) could hit everyone. Another Democrat representative wrote a scathing op-ed in opposition to the income tax. Three Democratic senators voted against the income tax. Senate Democrats also voted to roll back their death tax increase from last year, admitting that high taxes drive people away from our state.
The Wall Street Journal editorialized against Washington’s income tax and the unethical manner in which it’s being pushed. Shocking, even The Seattle Times came out this weekend and said the income tax bill is a mistake, writing that lawmakers are “merely planning to cover a perpetual budget gap while failing to contain years of runaway spending… Households live within their means; why can’t lawmakers?”
When the bill was heard in the Senate earlier this month, more than 60,000 Washingtonians signed in CON — the most opposition to any bill in state history.
Now it’s before the House. And the opposition has grown to more than 100,000 people signed in CON. That kind of engagement is quite literally unprecedented in Washington. It matters. And it’s clearly having an impact.
But we’re not done yet. Here’s what you can do in advance of tomorrow’s (Feb. 24) House committee hearing, at 8 am:
-
Sign in CON if you haven’t already. Remember, if you signed in for the Senate hearing awhile back, you still need to sign-in CON for the House hearing tomorrow. The deadline to sign-in is 7 am tomorrow/Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Forward this email to friends and family and ask them to do the same.
Legislative leaders like Sen. Jamie Pederson and Rep. Laurie Jinkins expected this bill to move quietly and quickly. Instead, they’re seeing something they haven’t seen before: broad, sustained, bipartisan public opposition. Let’s keep it going.
