Future 42 Launches King County Project with a focus on Seattle issues
King County, WA — Future 42 is expanding its county‑based, civic engagement work to its fifth county in Washington with the launch of Future 42 King County, led by Project Director Jared Nieuwenhuis. This new project will help residents track local decisions that shape their daily lives and offer practical ways to participate before city councils and the County Council finalize them.
“Future 42 King County gives us a chance to rethink how communities engage with policy at the city and county level. As Project Director, I’ll be focused on elevating the issues that deserve attention, explaining proposals in plain language, and creating constructive pathways for public input. When people have better information, they make better decisions – and that strengthens the entire region.”
Nieuwenhuis is a longtime Eastside leader known for his results‑driven approach to public service, regional collaboration, and civic engagement. As a councilmember, deputy mayor, and accomplished external affairs professional, he has earned a reputation for clear communication, practical problem‑solving, and a deep commitment to strengthening the region. In his new role, he brings that same focus to helping King County residents gain clarity, understand the issues that matter, and engage directly in shaping the future of their community.
Future 42 King County will monitor major county and municipal policy decisions, publish research and annual local government scorecards, and send timely action alerts among other activities. The project will focus on issues with a direct impact on Seattle and King County residents, including public safety, housing and affordability, economic opportunity, taxes and spending, and effective government.
