Everett City Council considering tax increase while simultaneously increasing city expenses for taxpayers
At their April 24th and May 1st meetings, respectively, the Everett City Council will be discussing and taking action on a proposal to raise property taxes by over 5% through a ballot measure. This could raise over $13 million per year in an attempt to balance the city’s budget, which currently faces a deficit. This levy lid lift proposal is expected to be placed on the August primary ballot for voters to consider and would result in an average $250/year increase in city property taxes.
At the same time, city leaders are also considering a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) which will significantly increase costs and widen the budget deficit. It is unreasonable to ask voters to pay more property taxes in order to close a budget deficit while simultaneously considering policies such as a Project Labor Agreement which will drive up costs and add to that same deficit. City leaders must reconsider this levy lid lift proposal and commit to rejecting the Project Labor Agreement which will add even more costs for city taxpayers.
The Everett City Council will be discussing the levy lid lift proposal at their 6:30 April 24th meeting and taking final action at their May 1st meeting. Your engagement can make a big difference on these critical issues.
