Countdown to end of legislative session: Can We Kill These Bills in Time?
Countdown to end of legislative session: Can We Kill These Bills in Time?
Washington lawmakers are running out of time—and that’s a good thing.
This week, including today’s committee meetings, are key legislative deadlines.
If certain bills don’t advance out of committee by then, they’re done for the year. That means you still have time to stop some of the worst proposals on the table.
Here’s What’s Still Alive:
- SB 5041 – Unemployment Benefits for Striking Workers
Taxpayers and businesses will be forced to cover the costs when union workers voluntarily walk off the job. - HB 1269 & SB 5181 – Repeal of Parental Notification
These bills limit what parents can know or say about their children’s education, health, and more. These bills effectively repeal the initiative signed by more than 400,000 Washingtonians and was passed near-unanimously into law by lawmakers just one year ago. - HB 1217 – Statewide Rent Control
A proven failure in other states. Shrinks housing supply, discourages new development, and drives up prices in the long run. - SB 5360 – Environmental “Crimes” Overreach
Would make workers who mishandle common substances like cleaning agents potentially liable for a felony, on par with drive-by shootings. - HB 1213 & SB 5292 – Paid Family Leave Expansion
Washington already has paid leave. These bills expand it at an even higher cost to both employers and employees and will mean less jobs.
Take Action Now
Lawmakers are watching the clock—and watching the public response. If these bills don’t move forward this week, they’re done.
Tell your legislators: Vote NO on all of these bills.
Let’s finish what we started and send these bills where they belong: the legislative graveyard.
