Everett’s “No Sit, No Lie” Law Could End—Speak Out Before Wednesday!
EVERETT CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE ON EXTENDING “NO SIT, NO LIE” LAW WHICH CRACKS DOWN ON LOITERING AND ASSOCIATED CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
At their public meeting on Wednesday, October 22nd at 6:30pm, the Everett City Council will be holding a vote to continue the current “no sit, no lie” law which, if not approved, will sunset at the end of 2025.
This law was enacted with major support from local business owners as it enacted buffer zones to address loitering, homelessness, and associated criminal activity and instead focuses on connecting those in need with services.
The law was originally passed on a 5-1 vote in 2021. Since then, it has produced meaningful results within these buffer zones and has been popular with the local business community and the general public. When the ordinance was originally passed, it included a sunset clause, which means that it will expire if a vote is not approved to extend the law into the future.
It is critical that the Everett City Council votes in support of extending the “no sit, no lie” law to prioritize safer streets and services for those in need. Here’s what you can do:
