Property Tax Hikes Still Alive and Well in Olympia

Property Tax Hikes Still Alive and Well in Olympia

Yesterday, Olympia politicians pushed HB 2049 through the House—a repackaged property tax hike designed to hit Washington families where it hurts most: your home.

They changed the bill—but it’s still a tax hike

HB 2049 no longer triples how fast local governments can raise your property taxes. Instead, it was amended to give greater taxing power to school districts—granting them expanded authority to drive your tax bill even higher.

And make no mistake, if school districts have that power, you can count on them to raise your property taxes.

Although it passed in the House, many lawmakers who regularly vote for tax increases voted against this bill. Why? Because they know Washingtonians are watching—and we’re fed up.

Voters want spending cuts—not higher taxes

Polling shows exactly where Washington stands:

  • 4 out of 5 voters want Olympia to balance the budget by cutting spending
  • Barely 1 in 10 think tax hikes are the answer

So why is HB 2049 still alive?

Because they’re hoping to sneak it through the Senate before anyone notices.

That’s where you come in.

Deadline: 1:30 PM, April 23 — make your voice heard

We’ve stopped bad bills before—and we can do it again. But only if we show up.

  1. Take 30 seconds right now:
  1. Contact your Senator now and tell them to vote NO on HB 2049

They’ve tried to raise your property taxes over and over. It’s time to shut the door on HB 2049—and remind Olympia that Washington families aren’t an endless source of revenue.

No more games. No more excuses. No more tax hikes.

Let’s get it done.
