New polling: Washingtonians strongly oppose tax hikes being pushed in state budget

New polling from the Napolitan News Service shows strong opposition to tax increases and especially in using them to balance the state budget which includes record levels of spending.

Some key findings include:

  • 80% believe slowing the growth of government spending is a better way to address Washington’s budget deficit, as opposed to 12% who believe spending should continue to rise and taxes along with it.
  • 68% favor a budgeting approach that does not raise taxes, while just 7% would oppose that approach.
  • 77% oppose tripling maximum allowable annual property tax rate increase. That was supported by just 19% of respondents.
  • Increasing the state’s business and occupation tax was nearly as unpopular. 69% opposed that and only 22% support it.

The polling also addressed efforts to undermine or overturn current law in place as result of last year’s ballot initiatives.

The topline results from the poll are available here.

Polling was conducted of 800 registered voters in Washington between April 9-14, 2025.
